Verdi Imperial Stout

The often erased and written over chalk beer board was difficult to read at Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà, but I needed to order another beer. There were a few decent choices, but I decided to have the Verdi Imperial Stout, because it was on the list of Italian beers I made to try. I didn't realize it was on cask and not draft when I ordered it, but I figured the warmer cask beer would still be okay in the lingering evening heat. The glass that was handed over was pitch black with a sizeable tan head. The aroma was plentiful as chocolate, coffee, and smoke wafted into my nose. The flavor was bold and intimidating. It was like drinking a slightly too roasted cup of coffee with a dash of chocolate. The char and smoke flavor were subtle enough not to completely overtake the flavor. The mouthfeel was very smooth. I liked this beer, but it isn't something I'd rush back to drink again.

Overall: 8/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
