Beer Rating System

There is no exacting science or complex algorithm employed to come up with my beer ratings. I basically go off what my mouth and gut tell me. With 1 being the worst and 10 being the best ... here we go -

1. A beer which winds up scored a 1 would have no redeeming qualities. I probably couldn't finish it. These are the kinds of beers that nightmares and teenage hangovers are made of. I'm not sure if I'll rate any beers on here a 1 because, I generally won't go out of my way to torture myself. Then again I have been prone to picking up a random bottle now and then. I would assume that these are cheaply made mass market brews.

2. So a beer has to be something a bit better than abhorrent to be rated a 2 but, that doesn't mean that it is any good. Hopefully I won't be rating beers that fall this low either. Much like the 1 these would probably have to be a cheaply made mass market beer.

3. These disliked beers would probably be finishable but not enjoyable at all. There will be off flavors mixed into a boring and slightly offensive package. Well made and unique beers could fall this low simply because I don't like them. I'm looking at you lambic and Rauchbier.

4. Beers that might not be outright bad but still offer more bad than good would fall into the 4 category. I could finish it but probably don't want to. This is more of the realm of a better made mass market beer.

5. Here we have reached the middle of the road and the beer neither excites or offends me. Beers with no distinguishing flavor could be found here as well as beers that I take a sip of and shrug. The realm of the uninspiring but yet inoffensive.

6. I have started to like these beers but, they haven't won me over. They could taste good but have something not quite right with them or start strong but finish poorly. Unfortunately personal taste starts to send certain beer styles that I dislike barely able to move beyond here.

7. This is a beer I enjoyed but wouldn't be upset if I never had it again. The causes could be little deviation from the style and nothing unique about it to make it stand out amongst its peers. I would gladly accept one of these beers but wouldn't go out of my way to buy it.

8. Here we have finally hit beers that I like and want to drink again. They aren't the best of the best but they are still damn good. It is a shame that beers less than this exist!

9. These beers are delicious and have absolutely no drawbacks. At this point there isn't much that would separate it from a ten but alas great beers can't all be tens.

10. The best of the best like drinking liquid magic and finding bliss. Beers that make it here are my personal favorites that I will continually go back to and also pay a bit more for than I should.
