Kreativbrauerei Kehrwieder SHIPA Hüll Melon

SHIPA is a series of beers from Kehrwieder which are brewed the same way except for the one kind of hops featured in the beer, and as one would expect from the name this one is made with Hüll Melon. This is a variety of hops that I'd never heard of, but a quick search on HopUnion revealed it is a, "Daughter of Cascade", and that it has "distinct fruit characteristics including honeydew melon and strawberry flavors". As a lover of strawberries I was instantly sold.

The beer was a reddish chestnut color with a small white head that didn't last. I could smell the advertised strawberry and melon notes and there were also some hints of grass and summer. The taste was slightly bitter with strawberry, melon, and grass. This beer was decent and definitely worth drinking just for the experience of trying a beer made with Hüll Melon hops. I would imagine a beer brewed with these hops in addition to some of the others could be quite amazing.

Overall: 8/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
