Schwaben Bräu Das Schwarze

One interesting thing about going to get beer from the grocery store in Germany is that a short walk to a different store can lead to a few seemingly random brews. The stores in my area have mostly all the same line up of beer but each will have a few things the others don't. I found this beer I'd never seen a few blocks from my house in an Edeka which I had never visited. I also found the Mönchshof Schwarzbier there which I also had be looking for with no luck for awhile.

The beer came out as expected, black with a tan head. I could smell roasted malts, pretzel, and a bit of nutty chocolate but overall the aroma was faint. The flavor was good and enjoyable featuring molasses, toffee, and roasted malt. I was pleased with this beer and would like to have it again especially if I could find it on draft.

Overall: 8/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
