Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA

I'm a little hesitant to buy beers from the U.S. while living abroad, especially more time sensitive beers like IPAs. Sometimes I take the risk, like when I spotted this beer from Dark Horse. I figured since I couldn't remember seeing any of their beer in stores I frequent back home, it was worth the risk.

Crooked Tree poured a medium brown with some orange color in the bottom. It had a small head. The aroma was fantastic with mango, pineapple, peach, grapefruit, lime, citrus, as well as some faint caramel. The body was on the lighter side of medium, and I found the bitterness to be moderate. Despite the amazing aroma the flavor was a bit more subdued. I could taste grapefruit, rind, and citrus but not most of the overwhelming fruit combinations from the aroma. At times there was an astringent aftertaste. It is possible this beer degraded some during the long trip over the Atlantic, but it was still decent. I hope I can try more beers from Dark Horse in the future.

Overall: 8/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
