Hopfenstopfer Comet IPA

Comet IPA was a light orangish brown with a moderate head which dissipated quickly to just a lasting halo of foam. I could smell earthy notes, citrus, and lemon but overall the aroma was subdued. I kept getting hints of something that smelled burnt. I took a sip and again there was this odd burnt flavor. The other flavors were lemon, lemon rind, light citrus. Overall this beer was light on the intense flavors common for an IPA. Also it was not very bitter. The beer was on the lighter side of medium in my mouth and the bubbles from the carbonation were small. Overall it reminded me more of a pale ale than an IPA. I wonder if it was a little old or had maybe been exposed to too much light while sitting on the shelf in the Craft Beer Store. This beer was almost good but didn't quite meet my expectations. Maybe it was the style of hops or the way it was stored, but it just didn't taste quite right.

Overall: 7/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
