Bar Review: Antwaerps Bierhuiske Antwerp, Belgium

This was the first bar we stopped at during our trip. It was located just off the main square, Grote Markt, in Antwerp. We sat just inside the door and perused the draft selection on the menu.

We decided to do the beer tasting which was four drafts of our choice which would come with a small cheese plate. The cheese plate turned out to be an excellent addition to the tasting because it really helped to cleanse the palate and prepare your senses for the next sip of beer.

We chose drafts from Struise, Chouffe, Palm, and Bon Voeux to start. I didn't take the best notes on which beers we ordered so I'm not exactly sure what some of them are. The bartender was polite and helpful but wasn't interested in talking in much detail about the beers with us.

After really enjoying our first tasting we decided to order another round with the drafts listed as Kwak, Karmeliet, buffalo bitter (which has replaced one of the beers on the list), and St. Bernard's triple which replaced the Tokyo.

I think this a great bar and definitely worth a visit but I would recommend Kulminator if you only have time to for one bar in Antwerp. The service was good but, I could tell that this place has a group of regulars who obviously will be receiving preferential treatment. There is another bar not far from Antwaerps Bierhuiske called Gollem  which has 30 taps that I didn't get a chance to visit but might be worth checking out. Hopefully you will get a chance to sample the beer tasting and cheese if you stop by Antwaerps Bierhuiske because I definitely enjoyed it!

Overall: 9/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
