Mahrs Bräu Kellerbier

We spent a decent amount of time wandering around Bamberg before we decided on Zapfhahn. They boasted burgers and a large beer list to pair with an inviting enough looking beer garden. I ordered their Old Fashioned Burger with Gorgonzola and a Mahrs Brau Kellerbier, which according to the server, is what the locals drink and what you would receive if you just ordered "a beer" in Bamberg.

We waited a long time but eventually our beer arrived. It was a hazy gold brown with a white head. The aroma was heavy on the classic beer with some notes of grass and bread. The flavor was the same with more grass and bread and while not very exciting was definitely very drinkable. My burger was pretty good, and they paired decently but were not reinventing the burger and beer world together. I guess since this is what the locals drink in one of the most famous beer destinations in the world it is one to try.

Overall: 7/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
