Mikkeller 1000 IBU

I often tell myself that I'm not a sucker for advertising or easily swayed by gimmicks, but honestly that just isn't the case. When I see something like 1,000 IBU written on the draft board, I know damn well that I'm going to drink it just because. So when I saw such a beer written on the board at Mikkeller Viktoriagade I felt a duty to drink it.

I received a beer that was dark ruby and had no head. I was surprised when the bartender submerged the tap in the beer during the pour as that is a good way to spread bacteria. The smell was bitterness, caramel and rind. Sweet dark stone fruit, citrus, caramel and some licoricey flavor I'd expect to find in a stout made an appearance on my taste buds. It was interesting but not exactly fun or great. Bitterness was very apparent but the beer was no where near as bitter as some beers go. This beer didn't live up to its name.

Overall: 7/10

Hi, I'm Colin, I love a good hoppy IPA, but I can find immense enjoyment in a solid session beer, imperial stout, quadrupel or a nostalgic beer from my past.
